To talk about nature in Cancun is to talk about the area of Benito Juarez, and the different ecosystems which we can find on the island, ecosystems which are home to many types of vegetation, marine fauna, and coral reefs (the second largest in the world is here). Our journey around the places of natural beauty in Cancun and the surrounding area starts off in the Ecological Reserve of Sian Ka'an, a place where we find thousands of species of flowers and incredible fauna, including jaguars and monkeys. The main attractions though of this Ecological Reserve are the beaches and coral reefs.
The area of Akumal with its variety of flora and fauna, or the area where we find the parks of Xcaret and Xel Ha are other points of interest in Cancun for nature lovers.
Don't forget that Cancun is surrounded by a paradise of incredible islands, natural reserves, jungle, ecological parks…the nature around this city is an important source of life and interest. Endemic plant species, subterranean caves, exotic and tropical birds, as well as migratory birds like flamingoes, animals like monkeys and jaguars, and incredible marine life like manta rays, sharks, dolphins, and turtles, and caves full of bats. |
